Good Evening All, I'm looking to get shot of my points ignition and replace them with an electronic equivalent. I've done a few searches and haven't been able to find anything definitive. So far the options are:

1. Replace points in existing distributor points with magnetic or hall effect sensor. (Not sure what brand to go with or what P/N I need)
2. Replace the complete distributor with electronic version from another model (Not sure what model to get it from or how easy/hard it is to complete the conversion)
3. Replace the complete distributor with an after market unit. (not sure of brands reputation etc)
4. Independently programmable distributor (a few brands out there, like 123 etc)
5. Megajolt Lite and Coil Pack. (This does away with the distributor all together and allows full programmable ignition)

I have electronic points fitted to my 1973 Jaguar XJ6 (powerspark brand) and that works really well. I also run MegaSquirt2 on my Renault, so fairly familiar with MegaJolt Lite too.

What out of the above have people tried/are using? How easy was it to conduct the conversion? How well does it work?

Woz

There is always the HEI setup that was fitted to the Series II Bluebird L20 engine.
Plug and play :)

Yeah I would definitely recommend the 910 Bluebird setup,

I was also shown that E15 is an option the other day

Thanks Guys, I'll take a look at the 910 setup and where I can pick one up?

Barring a private sale you would have to go hunting at the Auto Wreckers.

Or you could use this: -

I would also recommend the above product but definitely the Bluebird / 910 (Australian) electronic ignition set up.

Still reasonable amount of L-series Bluebird around in the wrecking yards and classifieds.....Gumtree and eBay often have advertisers offering this set up.

You'll be amazed how different the car starts, idles, etc with electronic ignition....but I guess you know that!

Thanks for the replies. I will continue my search.

Just to be sure, will I just need the Dizzy or will I need any other module and/or the coil?

Get everything associated with the Ignition System: dist. ignition coil, wiring loom, and anything else I have forgotten.
The Vendor should make sure you have everything you need :)
