I am trying to work out how I am going to deliver my fuel system. I had plans of having custom fuel tank and surge tank made to suit, but looking now at the easy way out.

My car came with a underbody surge tank, but I sold it with the old motor... silly me..... but now I am trying to find another to suit. I have searched the forums but have came up with little. SWR, but cant find anything on them.

So what is out there? Thinking of just running stock fuel tank now!

Cheers

I just did efi convert on mine and found installing all the required gear a pain in the .....
I started with , prefilter , lift pump , surge , pres pump , filter and ended up only prefilter , pres pump (under car) , filter (in bay)
After numerous tries at getting it all in and in places I considered "safe" but failed with a mess every time so took out the stuff and redid it with less stuff '
Granted mine is just ITB efi L16 so I dont need surge but if I was to do again I would def get it all done inside the tank or get a alloy fab'd tank in the orig posi with all the requirements. Neater and safer only other option imo is to get one specifically made for 16's like the SW one

Joe, do you have a picture of the set up you run?
I have looked into a full custom alloy tank for my 1600, Mainly cause I wanted to run Drum E85 and avoid undercar or in the boot pumps again. At a cost of around $1k for a custom tank it has its plus side of more lts, baffles, in tank pump set ups and neatness, But downsides of cost, weight and time.

Hey mate,

This is what I have gone with, no idea if it's going to work yet though.... Lets see. I had the tank made, about $90.

no pics but its just simple bosch pump mounted under car just in void between floor and rear crossmember bolted alli bracket through floor under back seat, the filter is up front just near factory location (unsafe IMO now high press) going to change it once I get car put back together and running.
a stock one with baffles etc if done right wouldnt cost too much and would serve any purpose

trent's is a good one and I tried that but the gear I had wouldnt fit

Got a new( no fuel gone through it) 2 litre surge pot, with dash 8 and 10 fittings welded on, polished alloy, bottom mount, ie inside your boot, usually on rhs behind wheel arch, all inlets/outlets done for efi, with top breather going back to tank, engine return going into pot, lift pump feed into pot, and the bigger outlet at bottom for feed into a Bosch 044.
$150
Can also supply new bosch 044 with alloy insulated mount bracket at $150
Plus postage from brisbane

thinking outside the box being that you are doing it for nats , what about delete the boot tank and get two alloy tanks to fill areas infront of cross member with a intank pump and join the 2 up some how , then can deck the boot out with more space
could atleast get 20-30 litres if thats enough , puts weight in front of rear axle too and real low COG

In the past ive gone with the SWR under floor surge tank with a Bosch 040 pump strapped to it as seen in this thread:
http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=24832
I found this an easy way to get going initially but found the 040 pump was very noisy for the street- even with a neoprene cooler around it.
Next time id mod the std fuel tank and put the hi press pump and surge tank equivalent baffles inside it like in Jasol's thread:
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=15380&start=165
Which would both quieten it down and reduce the clutter underneath the car...

After a bit of research I am looking at this. Help me out if I am wrong. Noise from the pump on the outside is ok, it is not a daily so all cool!

Underbody surge tank with a 044 pump. Modifying the standard 1600 tank with internal pump. Looking at the Walbro internal pump with the tray kit. I think the pump is a 255??

This keep the fuel up to my motor running E85 and 300rwkws? What fuel regulator as well???

Cheers

The noise is quite noticable at idle. Cool if you want to hear a buzz almost as loud as the exhaust note but it wears off after a while and will attract cops when you drive on the street. So if you are registering your car at all, id consider a quieter option. If race/track only, it may suit.
Note: my datsun is not a daily driver either but im still over the sound it makes when I take it out thesedays. Maybe im just showing my age.
Also, I didnt use a lift pump as the fuel line from the fuel tank gravity feeds well down to the SWR surge tank mounted underfloor.
Not sure how E85 affects things but im using a Sard fuel reg like this with my 044 pump and BP98:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SARD-Adjusta ... 818wt_1313

Turbosmart have a good range of sizes with ones like this FPR1200 (next size up is the FPR2000):
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turbosmart-F ... 3250wt_911

Still reckon if you are thinking to mod the std fuel tank for a lift pump and say larger feed pipes why not just put a suitable hi pressure pump in the tank while its out? There will be no need for the underbody surge tank then. Much quieter and neater with not much extra work involved...

My 1600 with an N/A SR20 uses the SW Motorsport underbody surge tank, as these tanks were designed off my car as Stew did the first SR conversion on my car in 1992 back when he worked at SSS Automotive!

They work perfectly and I can't hear the fuel pump (VL I think). My surge tank is steel (remember 1992!!!). I guess they would be alloy now.

Search for SW Motorsport on Google and you will find them. Ask for Tim (Wilkins), Stews son.

As mentioned, they are gravity fed.

Cheers,

Toby.
