I have a 120y coupe that will have a 550/600hp Cleveland V8 in it for burnout comp use and drag racing, what is people's suggestions on chassis reinforcing and know weak sections of this car, it will have a 6 point cage, should I extend bars into the bay to connect to the front ends of the rails?

Hasn't anyone built up a 120y before for racing?

Racing and a heavy V8 in a sub 900kg car don't belong in the same sentence. That's why know one knows. Maybe try a 13B turbo for something silly quick.

That's a strange answer, I would think that light car and V8 for drag racing would be a great formular, seems to work well for all the cortina's and torana's out there, as I first posted it's not for going around corners but would of thought that the same effort that goes into a circuit racer to make it strong and stable would point me in the right direction for a drag car.

For burnout and drag, why not!
I have seen a VQ30DET fitted to a 1200 coupe.
V8? Any thing can be made to fit if you try hard enough.
I think you may be on your own though which can sometimes be a good thing.

I would suggest looking at a few Y's on this forum and seeing what they have done. Are you going to be tubbing the rear? Are you going to be going a tube/space frame front end?

Thanks sr20datsun, it will be tubbed and may notch the chassis if needed, I was hoping to leave most of the inner front fenders alone but may need some removed for pipes, the firewall and transtunnel needs to be done, the Clevo should fit by my measurements and will be different, I respect the grunt of the turbo 4's and rotors but nothing sounds better or looks more impressive than a pair of carbs sticking out the bonnet and V8 at full song, burnout comp cars need the look and sound to be successful, you just can't replicate with any other engine unfortunately.
I will have more of a look around and see what others have done

I remember a 1200 coupe with a 400 sbc hitting the burnout pad at Western Nats years ago. I couldn't tell you what strengthening he did, but I remember one thing...bit was frikkin' hardcore!

Thanks for the link, serious rear end setup and chute for 10's but at least he is setup for anything in the future, I will go read the whole thing later, cheers
When I get this up and running Datsamore I will bring it up to Perth to compete, come say hello if you have the time.

well the engine fits nicely, just going to change the steering to rack and pinion to get rid of the steering box, heaps of room for pipes, v8's and 120y's are made for each other hahahaha
